Hello! My name is Sara. Although I officially live between Bath and Bristol, I spend

most of my time, especially during the Summer, at my static caravan, which is on the cliff, overlooking the beach and waterfall at St Audries Bay.

This area, and Somerset in general, is such an inspirational place - with the Quantocks, Exmoor and a very interesting and varied coastline, along with some wonderful picturesque villages dotted around.

I have always been creative and have painted on and off all my life, as I find it a fantastic way to relax and ignore the craziness of the modern world.

I love spending time outside with my sketchbook, joining Plein Air groups for painting sessions, or just making a mess with paints in my spare room!

Learning new things as we get older is so important, and I have enjoyed many workshops all over the Somerset region, from Wet Felting, Pottery, Willow Weaving, Sculpture and needlecrafts – so no matter what you fancy doing, there’s sure to be a group or a workshop offering you some new skills.

I started teaching Mixed Media sessions at Hayley’s in January this year, and have been so thrilled that my sessions are getting booked up so quickly. So much so, that I am now running them twice a month throughout the summer, to ensure that everyone can join in if they want to.

Mixed Media is a wonderful medium as it can include and incorporate just about

anything! If you’re doing a watercolour painting and then add a bit of crayon, it then becomes mixed media as it’s using more than one type of medium. My husband says it’s like ‘Blue Peter Hour’ in my house, when I start glueing bits of tissue paper onto my artwork to give them texture!

I have joined the Bath and Bristol Urban Sketchers groups on many occasions – and have recently set up a Sketching group of my own, which are free session for people to just meet up at a specific location and sketch whatever takes their fancy for a couple of hours and then do a bit of show and tell at the end. It’s a great way to connect with other people who have similar interests, and of course, meet new friends.

I am very lucky in that my day job as a Wedding and Funeral Celebrant also allows me to be creative - using words. I can mainly work from home, writing my bespoke scripts, which then gives me the flexibility and time to pursue my love of anything ‘Arty’.

Hayley’s in Williton is an absolutely amazing place which offers the local community many different ways of connecting – whether that’s through Art and Craft workshops, support groups or just a place to meet up and have a chat. If you’ve not discovered it yet, why not take a wander along Roberts Street and come and say hello, where you are always guaranteed a very warm welcome.

You can find out more about me and my workshops on my Facebook page.

Sara, our featured artist, is next hosting a mixed media art class on Thursday, 21st May.
